Kim Through To Semis
Kim Clijsters is into the semifinals at Sparkassen Cup in Leipzig,Germany. It has not been an easy route though. Her first round opponent was Ai Sugiyama, who had a 1-0 record over Clijsters coming into the match. Clijsters didn't seem to care, because she had an extremely easy 6-0 6-2 win. In round two, the young Belgian faced former French Open champion Aranxta Sanchez-Vicario. The first set was a real sweat fest with Clijsters taking it 7-5, but Sanchez-Vicario gave the young newcomer the 2nd set 6-1, and gave her old veteran legs a rest. Round 3 wouldn't be as simple as the other two rounds for Clijsters. She faced her peer and former juniors partner Jelena Dokic. Dokic has beaten Clijsters twice, but she didn't exscape this 3-setter. Dokic took the first set 6-4, but Clijsters rallied back to win the next two 6-2 and 77-64. She now faces Russian bombshell Anna Kournikova, who still hasn't a title to her name. Whaddaya say Clijsters, go easy on her? Should she beat Kournikova (whom she has a 2-1 record against), she would have to take on either Elena Likhotseva or Nathalie Tauziat.
Kim Skips Bratislava
As was reported, Kim was supposed to play and be seeded first at Bratislava. For some reason, she did not play. I have no idea why. I am very dissapointed about this. Obviously, whatever the reason was, it has not affected her during Sparkassen Cup. However I am still curious as to why she withdrew from the competition. If anyone knows why she withdrew, please send me the information about it.
Are Kim and Lleyton Still Together?
There has been much curiosity about Kim Clijsters and Lleyton Hewitt's relationship. People have been questioning whether the two are still together. Well, they are! In fact, Lleyton was in Filderstadt with Kim when she got to the final and fell to world no. 1 Martina Hingis. He was spotted smiling in the crowd throughout the final. Even though Kim didn't win, he must have been very impressed.
