Clijsters Looks Forward to Facing Lindsay
by Henry Wancke

Belgium's Kim Clijsters, the No.7 seed, has yet to drop a set in this year's Championships and she kept up that sequence with a narrow 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-5) victory over Meghann Shaughnessy of the USA to advance into the Quarter-Finals.

It was Clijsters' ability to cope better with the pressure of two tie-breaks that ensured her victory on Court 13.

Shaughnessy, the No. 17 seed, put up a brave fight in the first set and had a chance to go 5-4 up against the Belgium's serve but Clijsters, the Runner-up in the French Open, kept her nerve to hold serve.

She had three set points in the 12th game against Shaughnessy's serve but this time it was the American who fought back to level the games and take the match into the tie-break. Eighteen-year-old Clijsters raised her performance in the tie-break to take it easily 7-2.

In the second set, Shaughnessy broke Clijsters in the sixth game to lead 4-2 but again she was unable to build on the break, losing her serve in the next game. The games then went with serve to ensure a tie-break. The second tie-break was closer than the first but Clijsters held on to win it 7-5.
