BELGIUM TOURNAMENT—RANKING MAINTAINED
Kim Clijsters is back with "victory" set on her mind. After her breakthrough quarter-final showing in Antwerp, Belgium last year, Clijsters looks to be a favorite in the Mexx Sport Benelux Open this time around since she has obviously progessed as a player. She is the 3rd seed. Fresh off a final showing at the Berlin Open in Germany, Amanda Coetzer is the first seed, while Clijsters' country-woman Sabine Appelmans is the second seed. Obviously since Belgium is Clijsters' and Appelmans' native land, they desire to win the tournament more. Clijsters' first round opponent is 185th ranked Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. In related news, Clijsters is once again the 28th ranked player on the WTA Tour. She lost it for a week due to lack of match play, but regained it. Her 2000 record to date is 10-4.
