MIXED DOUBLES FINAL FINISH

This year's Wimbledon proved to be a landmark one in many ways. Venus Williams was the first black Ladies's Singles champion since Althea Gibson in 1957-58. The Woodies, Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge added a trophy to their record-breaking doubles career, and who could possibly forget Pete Sampras, who with his win made 2 records. Most Gentlemen's Singles Wimbledon titles with William Renshaw—7. Also, he now has the most Grand Slam singles titles in the history of men's tennis—13. But enough with that, "What about Kim?" you say. Well, she didn't have as decent a run as last year's Wimbledon where she beat the seeded Amanda Coetzer in the 3rd round and lost to Steffi Graf in the fourth of the Ladie's Singles competition. This year, she only made it to the 2nd where she was beaten 6-4 6-2 by Russian newcomer Anastasia Myskina. The second round was the pits for her in Ladie's Doubles as well where she and her Slovakian partner Tina Pisnik lost 6-2 6-2 to Julie Halard-Decugis and Ai Sugiyama. So where would Clijsters excel this time? Mixed Doubles. The young Belgian made it all the way to the finals with her Australian boyfriend Lleyton Hewitt. The victor of four tournaments for this year alone in cluding Queens Club, Hewitt and Clijsters both used their knowledge on grass to beat the likes of Joshua Eagle and Anke Huber to Mickael Llodra and Julie Halard-Decugis. Unfortunately, the two lovebirds fell 6-4 7-63in the final to Americans Donald Johnson and Kimberly Po. I guess we can all conclude that mixing business with pleasure can be a good thing!
