The next time that we went to this location the swell had gone down a bit. Lance had a Mackerel on his line but it got off. Then we had to watch the guys on North Wall pull up 2 huge Mackerel. But we got our own back next time that we were there. Paul caught his first Spanish Mackerel...and brought it in!!!! At first we couldn't work out why the fish was giving so much slack on the line. A couple of times Paul thought that he had lost it. Then, when it got to the rocks, we saw the shark chasing it. I think that if it had taken a second longer to get it up on to the rocks it would have been shark fodder. When we got the mackerel up the cliffs we realised that god must have been on pauls side because: 1) He had hooked the fish through it's belly and it looked like the hook was about to come out; 2) The wire trace was half shredded in the fish's mouth; 3) The cliff gaff had not been tightened onto the rope at the shackle; 4) See above about shark. |
