The Search for Love
by Kimber Giedd
The search for love grows long and cold
For the ugly duckling who walks alone.
Myfondest dream is at last to behold
A hand that wants My hand to hold.
When I laid my lonely eyes on you
I thought maybe my search was through
But I think I knew from the start
That I would never hold your heart.
Still I, the ugly duckling, tried
To show you the lovely swan inside.
My hopes and dreams tainted my view
From the facts I knew to be true.
I built my world around my wishes,
But could only dream of your kisses
I built my castles in the air,
But couldn't make true what wasn't there.
Each night I wished on a star above
That I was the one that you could love
Only to come crashing down each day
When my true love didn't look my way.
And so I turn my eyes from you
For there's nothing left for me to do
But hope that you can be forgiving
Of an ugly ducklings wishful thinking.
