Memories

There are times when a memory is all I need
From far ago when I am feeling lonesome and cold
Facing the future, yet still looking backwards
To a day when all in my world was bright and bold
A song or a thought to bring it all back to me
Back to those days when we laughed and played
The memories are still in my mind, like an echo
Or a photograph, once new, just beginning to fade
But now that your gone, you've moved on with your life
I remain behind with my heart in one piece once more
And time has given me the kind gift of forgiving
The chance to remember while still closing the door
Not all should be lost in the blur of life going by
I would like to remember the good times of the past
But all that is left then is the memory of us
Fading slowly like fireworks in the summer sky
