Mars Attacks! (1996)
This is a silly comedy. Annette plays a funny supporting role as a recovering alchoholic. She is not in a whole lot of the movie, but when she is, she is funny. If you like a lot of laughs, this is a movie for you.
The Siege (1998)
In this crime-drama Annette plays a CIA agent working with the FBI to take down terrorists in New York City. This is an action packed drama filled with surprises throughout the movie. Annette and her co-star Denzel Washington really make the movie wonderful. It is a must see for everyone. I guantee that you will like it!
In Dreams (1999)
This horror movie is certainly a new role for Annette. We are not used to her scaring us to death like she does in this movie. She playes Claire Cooper, a woman that dreams about a serial killer and can predict when he is going to strike next. As the movie goes on, the serial killer ( Robert Downy Jr.) begins to lead Claire to him. Through half of the movie she is in a mental institution, because they don't believe what she is telling them about the killer, and what he is doing. This film is remarkable, and Annette's performance is chilling, and one of her best.
American Beauty (1999)
This is a film where Annette truly shows all of her talant. She is remarkable as Carolyn Burnham, a real estate agent in Surburbia, USA. Kevin Spacey plays her husband, Lester Burnham_ a man unhappy with his life. Together they steal the show as an unhappy married couple going through everyday life. This film recieved 8 oscar nominations, and won 5 of them, including Best Picture! This was my favorite film of the year. It was a dark comedy that worked on several levels. It certainly gets a spot on my favorite movie list!
What Planet Are You From? (2000)
In this silly comedy Annette plays a recovering alcholic/real estate agent. Garry Shandling, one of Annette's good friends playes Harold, an alien from a planet "way the hell out there" as said in the movie. He is sent to earth to impregnate a woman for world domination. They eventually get married and have a child. There is only on problem, Harold begins to feel love, something that he isn't suppose to feel. He realizes that he is in love with Susan (Annette Bening). This really complicates things. This movie is very funny and cute. It really is not an oscar worthy movie, but it is a good movie to see on a Saturday afternoon, when you have nothing else to do. Annette clearly gave the best performance in the movie. It is a must see, if you want a good laugh.
