only in Japan...food
I can't really call it pocky since it's by Meiji and not Glico, but apricot flavored stick thingees were good. ^.^ It was sweet with a hint of sourness from the apricot.
Yummy...the many types of bread in Japan include tuna potato bread...although I found the potatoes, the tuna is nowhere to be seen. ^^; It was still delicious.
This week, the 2nd years was in Tateiwa and Kyoto-sensei (vice principal) bought back manju for all of us. Oishigata!
Monday, I made onigiri with a student. On wednesday, I was suppose to help make 'hotto sandwich'...but didn't have the time. So she made them for me and some of the other teachers.
The concept of hot sandwiches is more like the paninis since they are made by pressing bread together. The idea is making a pouch so that the middle doesn't come out.
We need one of these in the US! They're so handy! (Although you can't make giant sandwiches with them, you can make neat sandwiches that don't have anything falling into your lap.) The types of sandwiches that were made include ham and cheese, lettace and tomato, apple filling (which I had and it was delicious,) and I think grapefruit as well. ^-^
Even after that scrumptous snack, I was still able to have school lunch...which included giant toast with honey and almond slices on top. *drools in memory*
It has been getting hot in Japan and the secretary made cold greentea for me and some others who were still working late. ^.^
death by sweets
We paid for our meal first via vending machine style and was handed our ticket with our 90 min. time limit on it. Commence the feasting! I started with a small plate of pizza and pasta followed by another small plate of pizza and pasta (since there were two kinds of pizza and I wanted to try both. ^.^)
I then had a cake plate that included the mousse filling ones followed by a mess which I called my pudding/jello plate.
As you can see from the badly taken pic, there was a waffle with whipped cream and chocolate in the corner along with a cream puff. To the right of the waffle were the mousse cakes and to the left were the cream pie slices. Below the creampuff are two cakes, chocolate and yellow with cream cake. I had ice cream with the cake.
For ice cream toppings, they had corn flakes, chocolate crunchies (similar to oreo pieces found in the middle of Carvel cakes,) colored sprinkles and an array of syrups. I always had chocolate syrup with the crunchy things on my ice cream. ^.^
*intermission* ice cream dispenser
Let me pause for a moment to tell you about the awesome ice cream dispenser. There was soft serve there that had knobs and handle-like things at the top. I tried to push, pull everything in order to get out the ice cream...to no avail. <.<; Finally, one of the servers took pity on me and pointed to the floor. O.O Pedals! By pressing one down, ice cream comes out so you can free your hand...for whatever you need a free hand for. Perhaps holding more dessert plates? After getting my ice cream, I did the touristy thing and ignored the stares of the other patrons as I took a pic of the machine. ^.^
BTW, they only had strawberry and vanilla...those two are more common then chocolate and vanilla soft serve. ^^;
*end intermission* Back to the sweets!
The mess in the pic above has many types of puddings/custard. We have matcha custard with whipped cream on the left, with light almond jello with peaches, light flavored one with cheeries (which was my fav,) and a white pudding (I have no idea what but it was good ^^;) at the top of the plate. The dark piece at the right side is sweet potato which was dipped in light syrup, followed by a slice of matcha cake roll, and the grayish goo at the bottom (which fighter and I dubbed asphalt) was black sesame jello.
We paused for a moment in our eating to discuss life in general as our tummys digest the massive amounts of sweets we just ingested. Our convo turned to concrete and asphalt for various reasons hence our dubbing the grayish jello as such. ^.^ Afterwards, I ended up getting another plate of salty stuff since they came out with chicken nuggets, meatballs and another type of pizza. Good thing the pizza was all thin crusted. ^.^ The meatballs was so nice and spicy. Oishigata! I ended with a plate of my fav choices from the dessert asile which included a brownie slice, a slice of chocolate cake, sweet potato, cheese cake and a dollap of soft serve vanilla since that is always good with chocolate. ^.^
'Death by sweets' is thusly named since by the end of the meal, both me and fighter felt like rolling on the ground and dying from overeating. ^^; We survived however and made our way to Book Off to digest by staring at yummy BL books instead.
