Goals


Goal:

1. To provide materials that will enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interests, abilities, and maturity levels of the pupils served.

Objectives:

a. Meet with grade and subject level teachers to establish curricular needs.

b. Explore a variety of web sites for each of the subject areas and choose the most appropriate.


Goal:

2. To provide materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and ethical standards.

Objectives:

a. Review book checkout stats to discover the most popular books.

b. Provide links to books both fiction and nonfiction for each of the subject areas.

c. Provide a wide variety of web site links to general and fun reference materials beyond the curriculum.

d. Provide an opportunity for creative expression.


Goal:
3. To provide a background of information which will enable students to make intelligent judgments in their daily lives.

Objectives:

a. provide a question section to explore thought provoking questions, philosophical debates and problem -solving opportunities.

b. provide an opportunity for students to create school appropriate web pages.


Goal:
5. To provide a set of criteria that includes currency, authority, organization, and accessibility for choosing web site links.

Objectives:

a. Choose links that meet the above criteria.

b. Review links often for broken or changed sites.

c. Make sure all links will be allowed through our filtering system.


Goal:
6. To place principle above personal opinion and reason above prejudice in the selection of materials of the highest quality in order to assure a comprehensive selection appropriate for the users of the library.

Objectives:

a. Use student and teacher surveys to determine the best information to include on the site.

b. provide materials on opposing sides of controversial issues.

c. Change sites as need be based on usability and evaluation factors.


Goal:

7. To allow for management, maintenance, and evaluation of current web site.

Objectives:

a. add a web site selection policy to the current collection development policy.

b. Promote the web site through a variety of resources.

c. Use technology Tuesday to promote web page building and the use of digital cameras.

d.Check for link rot on a regular basis.

e. Assign parent volunteers to page maintenance responsibilities.

f. Set a schedule for regular updates.

g. Make sure the web site is up-to-date, reliable, accurate, and constantly evolving?

h. Use a variety of evaluative techniques including one-on-one, observation and survey to determine the usefulness of the site.
