April 5, 2002

I've had another really weird week. I'm just going to skipp all the other weeks that I heven't written about. The RL bug has bit me in the butt BIG TIME, and I haven't had much time to site down and type or draw or anything.

The Good news is that I have been employed for 2 weeks. Here's the short of the long of it; Applied at Hipple Printing, they said they didn't have an opening, applied at Kmart, accepted me right away, two days later Hipple calls back and wants me to come to work. So that left me with working full time for the local paper, and doing part time work at Kmart.

Now I know what you're thinking, "Why would she want to work for a franchise that's going under?" Exactly! They NEED people! It was a gauranteed job. If it goes completely under, I'll still have my full time Ad Composition job, which pays more anyway.

So I've been working for two weeks. Today was the last day for the gal I'm replacing at Hipple Printing. She's moving with her husband and daughter to Minneapolis. I think she's going to work for the Start Tribune?? Anyway, it was a teary good-bye for a lot of the staff. I wished her the best of luck, and thanked her profusely for everything she taught me and for all the templates she made. :)

I have been showing the rest of Ad Comp some tips for Adobe Illustrator, which I've been using in my goof-off time to draw over sketches I've done. I guess they were really impressed, and in a moment of bad "bigheaditus" I appointed myself "The Mighty Illustrator Guru." The sad thing is that I actually drew a picture of myself as some sort of superhero. But things are going well at both jobs. I'm onmy feet 4-6 hours at Kmart, which isn't too bad now that I have a pair of quality shoes with hard inserts that really hold my arch up. I absolutely love them! I recommend that anyone who stands on their feet for long hoirs get a pair of New Balance walking shoes and some hard arched insouls. The package ran me a little over $100 (nothing was on sale at the time), but by god they're worth it.

So that's the update on my life. I'll see if I can save those Illustrator files, and I'll put them up on my site, which needs a major overhaul anyway. That will ahve to be for a later time. I'll work on bits and pieces of ideas, then on a long weekend I'll put them together. Until that time in the (hopefully not too) distant future, I wish you all well, good fortune, and safe travels.
