As college time creeps ever closer, I wonder what this year will bring me
The situation is a little different for me this time around. I'm having a roommate...
flashback...It was a rollercoaster of a year. I had good times with my friends, but I had a horrible time with my classes. I was a Graphic Design major. Everyone else seemed to grasp the concepts out professors werre throwing at us, except me. I coul draw...yeah. I could think of a couple good ideas...sure. But I didn't have the same kind of professional, commercial attitude like everyone else. I was too much of a kid-at-heart. I was into comics, animation, Dungeons and Dragons. Graphic Design didn't seem like the thing for me. I could do it, but I could only get half the ideas right.
So the year dragged on, I stuggled through classes, and I found refuge with my friends and my room that I had aquired as a single when my first roommate left. She could not get along with me at all. It's like it was her mission to be bitchy in life. But I got over it and moved on with the room all to myself. Then at the end of the second year there, three of the dorms deicded to throw a block party for the students before finals week. It was awesome! There were bands, live comedians, and later there was a DJ and we could request songs.
Well, a new aquaintence of mine asked to play the song "Kung Fu Fighting." It was great and everything, but I ended up doing a side karate kick. I felt and heard this sickening, distinct pop in my left knee. Well, that took me out right away. I thought it was a temporary injury. Turned out that I couldn't walk on it for three days because it hurt so bad. I couldn't even straighten out my knee.
So I dealt with it as long as I could. My knee never healed correctly, and in July sometime, I went to have an MRI done. Found out that I have some tears and a fluid pocket around some of my cartilage. Fun! :(
So now I have to move in with a roommate because I can't climb stairs after surgery. I hope things work out. She's an Interior Design major, and I know all about the department she's going to be working with. That will be one thing we have in common. She has kindly offered her futon to me until I can climb into a loft. That was really nice of her :)
I'm just hoping that things go better this time around with this new roommate (and she's a freshman too, which is cool).
The lesson...The past is the past. Learn from it and use it as a tool for good.
