Love

He slammed the phone down, why did she always have to be like that, it wasn't his fault he was always away, he had no choice, he loved his job, but he also loved her, why couldn't she see that. He boarded the plane, where he sat uncomfortably in his chair. He just couldn't relax. The way she'd said it was like he enjoyed being away. Which was only half true, sure he liked seeing the world, but he hated leaving her behind, his heart ached when she wasn't there, she never seemed to believe that while he was gone. He tried once more to get comfortable in his chair, it didn't work, it was going to be a long flight. This seemed to make him even more angry.
Finally he was home, leaving the plane and its uncomfortable seat behind him, he called a cab, unable to figure out the time only added frustration to his anger, he had to get home, he had to put her straight, tell her she was wrong. The journey home took much longer than usual, this wasn't helping, every second he sat in the stuffy enclosed space of the cab, all he could think about was what she had said. This was driving him crazy. The cab pulled up outside his house, he paid the driver, and got out, slamming the car door behind him. He looked up at his house, all the lights were off. She must be asleep. He didn't care, he had to tell her now. He entered into the darkness that was his house. It was so quiet. He shut the door and walked up the stairs to their bedroom. He opened the door and looked in, there she was, asleep. Another wave of anger spread across his body. He had to wake her. He shut the bedroom door behind him, hard, sending an echo through the whole house. He switched the lamp on next to her. He stood there waiting for her to wake. She began to stir, he eyes flicked open, squinting from the light.
"Nicky? is that you?" She asked. He took a deep breath in, and closed his eyes, he voice melted his heart, he could feel the anger slipping away from him. He opened his eyes again, he looked down at her. Her blue eyes stared back at him. "I'm sorry Nicky...."
"Shhhhhhh" He cut her off "don't worry G, it doesn't matter, I'm home now" He smiled, he never could stay mad at her. He turned the light back off and shook his head, she always did that. He'd be so angry at her, but as soon as he heard her voice, and saw her face again, nothing could overcome the love he felt for her. He lay down next to her, and put his arms around her, and held her close to him. This wasn't going to be the last time this happened, but he didn't care because he knew in his heart that his love for her was stronger than anything else he could ever feel, and nothing would ever take that away, and at this moment in time, he was the happiest man it the world.
