Directions: You will be creating a handout for the archaeological convention that explains how women were treated in Mesopotamia. You will use Microsoft Word or AppleWorks to create your handout. You must answer these questions somewhere in your handout.

2. Read the excerpts gleaned from Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets and artifacts. Then find the sentence, phrase or idea that shows each of the following ideas. Include these examples on your handout.

a. Areas where women could exercise some authority (power).

b. Areas where women had little power.

c. The treatment of slave women.

d. The types of work women engaged in.

e. Things women complained about.

f. Laws that seemed to protect certain rights of women.

g. Laws that parallel ours with regard to marriage. That contrast with ours.

h. Include these examples on your handout.

3. What additional things about women’s lives do you think should be discovered?

4. Include on your handout a picture of a goddess or a picture of what you think the average woman would have looked like.
