Great Expectations
Do you know a story, ¡¯Great Expectations¡¯? In the story ¡®Great Expectations¡¯, Pip was a poor boy, but he obtained opportunity to go London because of anonymous supporter. He went to the London to become a gentleman. Pip became vain man and snob, but he recognized something. His supporter was a prisoner that Pip gave some food when Pip was young. Pip knew that fact and disappointed. However, he found his innocence, and realized that his brother, Joe was a gentleman.
¡®Every cloud has a silver lining¡¯. It is the saying that John Milton¡¯s. It means that if there is some bad happening, good happening will be arouse soon. Is this story has the saying ¡®Every cloud has a silver lining¡¯? Of course, people can see that this story has the saying. However, I think there is no ¡®silver lining¡¯ in this story. Pip had an opportunity to go London because of anonymous supporter. Many people probably think this part is the ¡®silver lining¡¯. However, Pip became a vain person after the opportunity. Is it a ¡®silver lining¡¯? No, it is not a silver lining. Although going London could be a good opportunity, the result was terrible. Pip lost his innocence and became a snob. It cannot be considered ¡®silver lining¡¯.
Before Pip obtained the opportunity, his life was not horrible. I think his life was common and happy. He had good brother, he could eat well, and he played with nature. It was not a horrible life, so it cannot be considered to ¡®every cloud¡¯. Of course, he was not a rich and he had a hysterical sister, but it was not a horrible life. It was a common life and it cannot be considered to ¡®every cloud¡¯.
Opportunity and surroundings are an inseparable relation and they are very important things. However, more important thing is effort. Efforts are rewarded in many forms. If you are in trouble or there is some bad happening, do not wait ¡®silver lining¡¯. If you do not do anything to overcome problems, the ¡®silver lining¡¯ never comes. ¡®Silver lining¡¯ is made by your efforts.
