COLORATION: As the name suggests, Thayeri's or Variables are the most variable kingsnake, ranging from solid black to a greyband phase to a milksnake phase, with some having grey base colors and others having an orange one. It is possible to have each of these phases in one clutch. |
NATURAL HABITAT: Mountainous and desert regions |
RANGE: North eastern Mexico, in the Nuevo Leon area and eastern plateaus in Tamaulipas, Mexico |
SIZE AND LONGETIVITY: Variable kings live to be around 15 to 20 years. They average around 24 to 38 inches in length. |
NATURAL PREY: Variables live primarily on small lizards in the wild, they are also known to eat other snakes, frogs, and small rodents |
