Patience
Patience
You just called me,
life pulses with a vibrant
golden power moving at the
pace of my heartbeat racing,
set to flying by the sound of your
voice.
And for a day or two
i go forward blazing bravely
through the sunlight and moonbright
movements agile, simple and reliable
still living in the magic of your spell.
But then i notice something
rather odd: that last blink,
did it take a fraction of a moment
longer? That last breath, why was
it harder than the one before?
Why has gravity suddenly intensified
on the muscles necessary to smile?
i’m not crazy.
My time has started to grind
to a halt as does a train exhausted
of fuel, still trying to push onward,
the wheels shriek, metal upon metal,
setting off a shower of embers.
The minutes stretch out
long and thin like desert
shadows at the sunset hour
and the blades of the clock
press close, drawing blood
as they continue to mark a
timeline i’ve fallen out of
sync with.
No, it isn’t death
but it isn’t living either;
my life has become arrested,
my time suspened
waiting for a next call that
i am not sure will ever come.
