When your tunnel fades,
And your guide is shy,
Do you ever believe you were stuck in the sky?
Jude's POV
LaOC XXXVIII - Powers Of Bright
Darkness
'Get the restraints on her, Kreousa!'
We struggle to get the leather straps of the jacket
tightened, but finally manage it.
How one person can cause such devastation is a mystery.
Discord looks up at me, and I have to turn away as the
face guard is put in place.
I can't look at her, she reminds me too much of the
past.
Of what has come, and what has gone.
The past; dead and buried, literally.
I turn to face a scene that is more reminiscent of our
Battles, in the ages that have fallen away.
The days of blood shed amongst our ranks.
The dark days.
And I... we all believed those days to have
left us.
But today we have been reminded how fragile our lives
are.
Elle and Gabrielle struggle to help Michelle.
I do not know if I too should aid them, or if I would
just be in the way.
But often, we aid not by doing, but by being.
Moral support, perhaps?
Decision made, I go to Michelle's side.
But keeping a little distance, so I do not get in the
way.
The death of an Angel is wrenching beyond belief.
It is as though part of your soul goes with them.
Perhaps this time we shall remember the Angel whose
life has gone.
Obliterated by some terrible dead.
Taken and spent.
Perhaps.
I watch as Elle slowly begins to lose the battle to
save her.
And I can almost feel her going, leaving, her soul being
torn from her body.
But then?
Sometimes in all of your existence, a moment will stay
with you.
Often it is not catastrophic or spectacular, just a
look or a touch, a word or a deed.
This is one of mine.
Simple words, the meaning hidden at first, carve themselves
into my memory.
'No, Michelle. My life for you.'
And I do not understand?
My God places her hands on Michelle's chest and it closes
in seconds.
I see Elle's face drain of colour and her eyes close.
Her arms hang loosely by her sides, useless now.
Her head gently drops back, and then so does her body.
And then I understand what she has done.
The ultimate sacrifice.
Her life.
She has given her life!
Her name leaves my throat, echoing around the halls.
Thoughts travel through my head at an imperceptible
speed, but none aid me.
None tell me what I should do.
'What the fuck? Elle? Elle! Elle!'
Gabrielle's voice is distant as I quickly lay my head
to Elle's chest, listening for a heart beat.
For any sign of life.
But the silence forces tears from my eyes.
Tears for my creator, for my wonderful God.
None of us here posses the power to help her.
And then I realise.
Maybe we don't.
But Lucifer does.
My mind calls her at the same time her name screams
from my throat.
'LUCY!'
I am sure it was only seconds that went by, but it felt
like an eternity.
A bright ball of flames signals her arrival.
Lucifuge.
Never our sworn enemy, only a sister who walks another
path.
'This better be good, you disturbed... what's happened?
Ellie? What happened? Speak!'
My voice comes back to me, but it leaves my throat broken
and hollow.
'She healed Michelle, but... it was too much. I did
not realise what she was going to do until it was too late. I did not
know who else to call.'
Her incisors lengthen and her eyes darken.
Kneeling by her side I watch as Lucy touches her
face.
As if she does not really understand what I am telling
her.
A split second later her eyes widen and her face pales.
And I know she is feeling her leave us.
She scoops her up in her arms, and almost burns through
the floor with the ball of flames she exits in.
And now we have no option.
We simply have to wait.
For the Devil has become Heavens only chance
at salvation.
