Bee's POV

LaOC LX - Long Not For The Ones Who've Lost Their...

'Hello, butterflies. How are... un-holy shit! No, no, no! This is not good. No way good. You... you're not meant to be here!'

I tap the glass of the stasis tube as I look in it again.
Technology had told me some of the bodies were showing now, but this was not what I was expecting.

I need to call Lucy.

I grab the phone off the wall and dial her cell.
After about a minute of ringing she finally picks up.

'What is it, Bee? I'm busy.'

'Lucy, we have a serious problem. You're going to pull my arms off, you are, but I didn't know. I swear to you. I did not know!'

Technology said we were doing a random sweep for souls.
That maybe we could pick up some of the ones we'd lost.
We weren't meant to be getting this.

'Bee, slow down. What's happened?'

I tell her, in no uncertain terms, what I've just seen and two seconds later she's flamed herself next to me.

'Bee, you have thirty seconds to tell me why I'm looking at this.'

She presses her nose up against the glass as she stares at the appearing figure.

'Bee, I'm waiting. You know, I think I dated this one back in the seventh century. I'd have to see her thighs to be certain. Anyway, back to the explaining.'

'Ok. Here it is. We did a random sweep with the net. We were just seeing what we could pick up with it. We had no idea what we'd get. Maybe a few of those political leaders we mislaid in the thirties, but... this... yikes.'

'This is not a political leader. How many stasis tubes have we got filled with souls?'

'Um...'

I don't want to say because she's going to slap me.
She always does when she gets really peeved.

'Bee!'

'Owwww! Ok. I'm thinking. About--ten. No, don't slap me again. This is the only one we can recognise. The others haven't appeared yet. The drain on power is severe. We're having to steal from Vegas as well as Idaho now.'

I watch Lucy as she paces up and down.
The only sound is the whirring of the generators and the clicking of her heels.
Then she stops and her mouth drops a little.
Uh-oh.
Big time punch now, I can feel it brewing.

'Bee. We did a sweep. We got these souls. There are nine more to appear. What happens if we do another sweep?'

Not what I was expecting.

'We get more souls?'

'We get more souls. Now. There have only been twenty of these deaths, ever. And we have half of them here... I need to think about this. I'll be in my office for an hour or so. Bring me a latté and a pastry will you?'

I watch as she walks off, shaking her head.

I pick up the phone and dial the restaurant.

'It's Bee here. I need two lattés, a danish and a cinnamon whirl delivered to my desk now. Thanks.'

I love having the ability to order anything.
I'm sure, Luce, thinks I get it myself.
Ha!
No way.
I'm no servant.

The lights suddenly start to flicker as we get another power drain.
And then something not very good happens.

We get another butterfly transforming.

I watch as a face begins to appear.
After picking my jaw off the floor I move closer to the glass.
Because even I know who this one is.

That's it.
Lucy's going to kill me.
Because this one really over-complicates things.

Aurora.
