WHEN I MEET YOU

A sun drenched room is where I'll see you first

Your golden hair reflecting the bright light

From outside sounds of laughter and cheers

But inside there's a silence, when I'll think

I hear your heart beat faster

As you see me look your way and smile

There'll be people between you and me, a floor

dense with shadows and hidden from sight

To get to you I'll have to manoeuvre so carefully

Steering my ship home by the look in your eyes

I'll watch you for an eternity, somehow removed

from the scene.

You'll be alone naturally

Surrounded by so many

Yet seeing only me

The next time we meet, you'll find it familiar

To watch for my entrance without even thought

Not knowing why you feel elated as I say your name

Nor why I should seem more real that night

For a reason I won't fathom, I'll try to protect you

I'll see it in your eyes, you're unsure of the road

To offer my hand as we walk ahead

On a path that you'd seen but never dared tread

And the night we become lovers will be

Lit by a brilliant full moon

Your golden hair muted to an eternal glow

Me crossing easily this sea between us

People in our way parting as we go

I'll slip my arms around you

Finally in place

Soft sounds not of silence this time

but a rhythm that becomes our song

With your head on my shoulder, breath

on my neck, I'll bring you closer

and

whisper

This is how we met
