Faith's POV

Slayers Do Total Recall XV - I'm Fragile Too, But Only With You

We've been walking for miles, in silence, 'cause I don't know what to say to her, and she's the same.
Then we get to the park, I like it here.
You can sit and watch stuff and not have to worry about getting messed with.

'You want to sit down and people watch, Faith?'

'Huh, yeah. You want my jacket to sit on? Think the grass is damp.'

I start to take it off, 'cause I don't want her getting her pants wet.
I've waterproof in my leathers.

'Thanks.'

'No biggie. Didn't want you getting a wet...'

Her hand flies up and lands on my mouth, stopping the word.
What?!

'Don't say that word!'

I manage to pull her hand off, jeez, steel grip.

'I was gonna say ass, not...'

It's back again, man, she's a spaz!
She pushes me down, wrestling me to the grass, and straddles my hips, stopping me from moving.
See, then I start to panic, 'cause I can't move, and she's on top of me, and I can't fuckin' move. She's this heavy weight on top of me and I need him off!
I push her off and she lands, with a thud, about five feet away.

'B. I didn't mean to... shit.'

She stares at me, all wide eyed and open mouthed.
I push up, quickly, grab my jacket and get my ass out of there as fast as I can.
You fucked up again, Faith, just like you always do!

Buffy's POV

You idiot, Buffy!
You got on top of her, and probably made her remember.
Damn it, think, can't you ever THINK?!

Then she's walking off, real fast.
Get up!
Lucky I've got my sneakers on; heels on grass would mean I'd sink.
I break into a jog and finally catch up.

'Faith, slow down. Faith, hey, slow down. Slow down. That's it. Thanks. I'm sorry, for... I'm an idiot, I didn't think. Please don't go. I'm sorry, really I am. I just... I didn't think, 'cause I'm stupid!'

'You're not, mad at me?'

I stare at her, because it's the silliest thing ever.
Why would I be mad at her?

'No, course I'm not mad at you. Now you have to sit back down with me, ok? I promise I won't touch you, not even a finger, ok?'

'Don't make fun of me, B.'

Wow, ok, I really need to think about everything I say.

'I wasn't. I was being serious. If you want to touch me, then you can. I don't mean, you know, naughty touching. I mean, if you want to put your hand on my shoulder or poke me, maybe not poke me...'

'You said you wouldn't babble if I stayed.'

She's clenching her jaw, 'cause I know she wants to laugh.
Ok, make fun of Buffy, but only because you're having it tough right about now!

'What I mean is, if you want to touch me it's ok. I wont touch you, yeah? I didn't think, back there, I didn't think. I'm sorry. Sit down with me? Look, dry patch! Come on, lets snatch it, quick, before someone else does!'

'B, we're the only ones here.'

I sit down on the grass and lie back, looking at the clouds.

'And that's because we got the dry patch! Come on, sit down with me. We can cloud watch!'

'Cloud watch? O. K.'

Well at least she's down.

'So you like the necklace then? Really? You don't have to lie.'

I watch her, as she rolls on her side, so I do the same.
Her hands go to her neck, running up and down the chain, feeling the links.

'Serious, it's wicked cool. Look how the links move, that's crazy! I've never seen them move every which way before.'

'I had it made especially. They sold the other one they had. This one's stronger, heavier. I didn't think you'd like a little, thin, girly one.'

She laughs, all soft, but it's a laugh, and I wish I had a tape recorder, so I could keep it forever.
She really, really, likes it!

'It's heavy. That's one of the things I like about it. Yeah, it's so cool. What about you? I know you said you dug the ring, but I can change it if you want. I mean, you can change it, 'cause if you don't like it you're not going to want me to choose something else, are you? Derr, Faith!'

'Look, I put it on. It fits perfectly. It's so beautiful. Did Dis help you chose it?'

'Hey, I can choose nice stuff myself!'

'Sorry, I didn't mean it all nasty. Just... it's all small and, you know,  delicate. It's not your style.'

'Yeah, and you like all those things. I'm not brain dead. I know what my girl likes, right?'

Her eyes dart round, quickly, checking.
Then she slowly moves towards me, and I think she's going to kiss me.
But then she stops, her eyes move away and she sits up!
Wow, this is going to be hard.

'Glad you like the ring, B. You want a smoke?'

'Please.'

She lights one up and hands it to me.
She really is a Knight; putting her jacket down for me, giving me the most beautiful ring in the world, ever, and lighting me a cigarette!

'I... B, I wanted to kiss you, then, you know that, right? I wanted to, but. Shit. Don't worry about it.'

'I know. It's ok. I don't expect anything from you. Sex stuff I mean. I don't expect anything like that. That's not why I wanted you to stay. Did you think that's why I wanted you to stay an extra day?! Faith, look at me. Did you? Wow, ok, from the look on your face I'm going with yes. I... I don't know what to say.'

'It's ok, you're my girl and... you have a right to want it from me.'

'No, see, you need to not be thinking like that. I don't expect anything from you. Lie back down with me, come on. Good. Totally honest, ok? I love the sex stuff, I really do. You make. My eyes roll back, it's amazing. But it's only like that because it's you doing it and that I love the you doing it. And because I love the you so much then I'll wait, and if we never do it again, I'll cry, but I'll deal with it. I'm not going to force you, or make you do it because you think you have to. You believe me, right?'

And she does, I can see it in her face.
She's more relaxed.
See, no babbling, just down the line talking.
Freudian; I left the straight out from that sentence!
Ok, no laughing Buffy.
Bad timing.

'I need time to... I got so much stuff in my head, B. Like pounding away inside my skull. Sometimes I want to do one thing, but my mouth or body does something else.'

'I know. I'm patient, it's my nickname. Patient Buffy. Ok, it's not.'

'You're mad.'

'I know, that's why you dig me, right?'

She pokes me in the stomach and smiles at me.
All these smiles, I think I've going to pass out.
She's a tiny bit better, and I know it's going to take along time, but I'm hanging in there.

Because all the best things are worth waiting for.
