After reading the other bios featured here, I quickly realised
that my first effort of 8 lines (ask Kitty if you don't believe me) sucked,
so I thought I'd better write something a little more substantial.
This of course got me thinking - what the hell do I write???
Well, taking a leaf out of the other author's bios - I thought it best just
to give a little history about myself and how I got into fanfic.
I am an Englander - born and bred in South London and I
still reside here. First full time job was at the BBC as a microelectronics
and communications engineer (sounds flash - it was actually pretty dull after
a while). After four years, I went for the total career change and became
a paramedic with the London Ambulance Service. I've just got promotion
and am still loving the job - something that surprises me as it is in my nature
to get bored with things and just move on.
In my spare time (ho - f***in' ho!) I am a civilian instructor
with the Air Training Corps. I teach First Aid (naturally),
navigation, and adventure training and I love it! With the nano seconds
that remain of my spare time, I sit glued on the internet, writing, or playing
PC games. I am totally addicted to Icewind Dale. The other big
thing in my life is music. I have CDs scattered everywhere, in the car,
in my living room and of course on the pc. I have what can
euphemistically be called an 'eclectic' taste in music - all depends on my
mood and I can never be pinned down on who my favourite band/artist/singer
is! At the moment I'm listening to Lisa Gerrard's The Mirror Pool -
truly astounding. (She's the singer that features on the Gladiator soundtrack).
So, how did I stumble across the minefield that is FanFic???
I was an avid fan of Star Trek Voyager and when I was looking
something up on the net, I stumbled across fanfic. At first I just read
it all and then I read "Where it all Ends" by BC Bones http://callspur.com/T7/bones/wiaends.html
and I became hooked on Torres/Seven fanfic.
After reading all that was out there, I decided to have
a go myself. I started off slow, with a short tale that I submitted
to the Voq Je Bang list. I was surprised that it was well received
and encouraged, started writing more and more. Most of my Star Trek
fic can be viewed at Ski woofe's excellent Dark Moon Subtext fanfic site under
the pseudonym RebelGirl http://www.oocities.org/skiwoofe/vfic1.html
If anyone's interested that is! I'm particularly proud
of "Complete" - which was quite an epic for me!
So, how did I make the transition to Buffy? Well,
a fellow T/7 writer Rach mentioned that she had a story. (Three minute
silence:- http://www.envy.nu/cordy4faith/fics/silence.html
I read it - was blown away by the characters and started sucking up Buffy
fanfic from that point on. I will mention Dreiser's It Starts With
Faith series too - totally awesome fic! I got totally enthralled with
the character of Faith - so many layers, such a magnetic pull so I decided
to chance my hand at writing a fic, despite NEVER having watched the show.
I had written myself into a hole with one of my Voyager fics so I decided
to branch out and try something new to re-ignite the creative spark.
I sent the fic to Nicole to ask her opinion and she told me about the lists
that I should get on and submit it to. So blame her if you don't like
it!
I love writing longer stories though I have dabbled in a
few PWPs. I like to get stuck into a good plot, rather than just stick
to standard plot devices just to get the characters together. People
ask me why I write femslash when I'm not gay. What a stoopid question!
Do these people ask crime authors why they write murder mysteries when they
aren't murderers????? I write about strong characters. And I love
doing it.
Of course, now that I've started writing Buffy fic - I don't
think that I'm gonna be able to stop. But I have still to finish my
Voyager fic and I don't think I'd ever be able to give that up.
Right - I think I've gone on enough now so I shall sign
off. I do not have any high brow titles except one given to me when
I was writing "Complete" I am the Queen of the Cliff-hangers!
(Be warned.)
