| How to get around the island ? Karpathos is not a very large island, but it's a beautiful one. You can rent a car at one of the car rentals in Pigadia, Amopi, Arkasa or Lefkos. With the jeep you can explore the whole island. You can also rent motorbike's and small bike's. And for the real sportive type, you can rent a few bicycle's... But you need a good condition to climb up the mountains by bike, but i saw people do it, so it is possible.. Karpathos is a nice island to go for hiking too. There are special books for hikers, so that you wont get lost and you just have to follow the directions. But of course you can do it also on your own, but beware how and where you walk, because getting lost on the many little sandroads is easy. |
| What to do on Karpathos ? On Karpathos you can do several things, just lying on one of the nice beaches, go for a nice excursion by boat to Olympos, climb up to the top of the Kali Limni or make a trip around the island. You can book all kind of different excusion's at one of the local travel agencie's like Possi Holiday Travel, which you'll find in the centre of Pigadia You can take guided and non-guided tours. The evenings in Pigadia are also very nice. Many taverna's and cafe's are open, so just choose one and have a great evening. I always like to have dinner at Sofia's Place, Romios, Anemousa or La Mirage. But all the others are good as well. After dinner you can relax and watch other tourists and Greek people at one of the cafe's which all have a nice terrace. For the real nightlife people Karpathos has five nightclubs Rocks, Escape, Oxygen, Fever and Paradiso, those last two are outside of the centre of Pigadia. |

| What to eat and drink ? In Karpathos you can eat of course the Greek Souvlaki and Pita Gyros. |
| But if you don't like the Greek food, which i almost can't imagine, there are also other things to eat. There are in Pigadia several Italian restaurants to find, and in some restaurant they serve beside Greek plates also other European plates, like pork filet, steak and of course many salads. You can always take a look at the card before you go into the restaurant, the owners of the restaurant put mostly a card outside so you can take a look what they have. |
| The national drink of Greece is the Ouzo, you can get it everywhere. This is the same for the Metaxa which you can get in 3, 5 and 7 stars. The Greek wine is Retsina, and you can combine it very good with your dinner. Of course on a holiday island you can get cocktails. The small cafes in the harbour have many cocktails, just take a look at their beverage card. Have a nice evening!! |
