"Our Fostered Samoyeds Page"

You Are Listening To "Sometimes When We Touch"
Here at Kiwyn Samoyeds, we believe we have to do our part as responsible breeders to save those Samoyeds that for some odd reason end up in a shelter or are being unrightly abused. Most of these dogs are good dogs that have just had the misfortune of starting out in the wrong hands. We feel for whatever life they may have left it should be spent getting the love they so rightly deserve, whether it just be for a few moments or for years. We foster what we can and if we don't have the room to foster we help to put them in a foster home until the right owner comes along for them. We don't place these dogs with just anybody. The dogs are evaluated on health and temperment. At that time they are placed in a suitable home that best fits the dog. So far, We have fostered 11 males and 5 females. We don't have any pictures of the 2nd Samoyed that we fostered but we do have pictures of the others. The new owners of all dogs we fostered were given the chance to keep the dogs names or change them. Please read their stories below.
In August of 1997, we recieved a call from a Dog Show Judge that works with a shelter on the side. In the phone call she explained to us what she knew of a Samoyed being in one of the local shelters. The next day I went out and picked him up from that very shelter with her assistance. When I first saw him I was in disbelief of his skin and coat condition. He had been shaved BALD and had hot spots all over him. We immediately put him on a good quality dog food and added Norwegian Kelp to it. We also started treating his hot spots. Within a few weeks his hair was showing signs of growing back and the hot spots were for the most part gone. By week 3 we had found him a loving home. If you would like to read more on this guy then you can visit his homepage by clicking on the button below.

The 2nd rescue (no picture available) we were notified of, on March 11, 1998 by the Samoyed rescue local contact who lives about 2 hours away from the shelter. He told us of this rescue being in one of our local shelters. We immediately went and picked him up. With him it was so sad, he was nearly starved and was hand shy. Although he was an adult when we picked him up we put him on puppy food to try and put some weight on him. He only weighed about 35 pounds when he should've weighed about 45 pounds. We worked with him and earned his trust within a matter of minutes and he then followed us around like a shadow. On March 21, 1998 we found him a good loving home. The relief for us in this case was not only saving his life and placing him in a home but when the new owners came to pick him up. You wouldn't have believed this guy was hand shy when we got him. He walked up to the new owners and begged for attention. We wrote a poem about this guy the day we got him. Click below to read the poem.

We now have a Samoyed rescue in our home. Her name is Samantha and she came to our home on July 11, 2000. On August 4th, Samantha went to her new home.
Simba came to our house on September 28th, 2000 full of mats and heartworm positive. We've groomed him up and he has been treated for the heartworms and is now neutered. Simba moved out of state to his new home on April 7th, 2001.
In August of 2001, We found out about Friesen being at a local shelter. He was an owner turn in and we were able to find out who the previous owners were and were able to talk with them. Friesen, himself, was about 10 to 15 pounds underweight and was heartworm positive. He got treated for the heartworms and started to pick up weight at our house. He was placed in a home in Maryland in October of 2001.
On February 10, 2002, we got in our newest Samoyed rescue. His name is Cherokee and is the victim of 2 different owners of which both are "moving and can't take him". So we are hoping to find a forever home for this sweet 7 year old. Cherokee went to his new home on August 17, 2002.
Kira came to us on August 31, 2002 as an extremely overweight female. We immediately have put her on a diet and are hoping she'll lose at least 20 to 25 pounds. She went to her new home on September 21, 2002.
Hunter came to us on Sept. 22, 2002 along with Dutchess. They were saved from a kill shelter in WV.

Denver came to us on February 24th, 2003. He looks scruffy in this picture as this is how he came to us. Once we get him brushed out and in ship shape condition, we'll get a new picture of him up. Denver was placed on June 22, 2003
Dee Dee came to us on June 30th, 2003. She looks scruffy in this picture as this is how she came to us. Once we get her brushed out and in ship shape condition, we'll get a new picture of her up.

Max came to us on August 15, 2004 as a return from a samoyed rescue that is no longer doing rescue. After the removal of a nerve sheath tumor and the start of Chemo treatment, Max went to his new home on November 22, 2004.
On Friday September 24th 2004, the administrative assistant at the local pound called us to notify us of a sammy in the pound. He was found as a stray and had been attacked by something. His release date from the pound is September 28th and at that time we'll pull him from the pound. We've already named him Kane. Kane was tested as HW positive. Unfortunately he did not survive the HW treatment and he passed away on November 2, 2004. He was cremated and his ashes are here at the house waiting for us to get a more permanent home where we will plant a bush or tree in his memory and put his ashes there.
On Friday January 21st 2005 we recieved a sam that was found wondering a very busy intersection in the state capitol. After making every effort to find her owners and failing, she became a sam rescue dog. Aurora was placed on March 12, 2005
