Black-capped Chickadee

This is one of the easiest birds to attract to backyard feeders, where they particularly like black oil sunflower seeds and suet.  They appear to be always busy, calling “chicka-dee-dee-dee”, looking in the crevices of bark and under leaves for small insects or grubs.  Chickadees nest in cavities, usually a hole in a decaying tree or stump that they excavate themselves or was previously used by a woodpecker.  They will also nest in appropriately designed nest boxes.  Installing such boxes in your backyard will ensure their cheerful company all year round.
