Osprey
Osprey is popular in the West Coast
as well as interior of BC, near the water, near the sea, lakes and rivers.
The number of Osprey as well as many other raptors was reduced
seriously due to the pesticides, but their numbers are coming back
recently. The white body and
dark eye mask were the two trademarks for this raptor, and slightly
crooked wing is also easily recognizable.
They feed almost exclusively on fish, and some people call this
bird, “Fish Hawk.” They
use large trees and poles, and readily accept manmade flat platform for
their nests, and raise average two to three babies.
They exchange loud, high-pitched whistle between the families,
audible for far distance.
