Light vs. Dark

Beyond the range of human ears
Quarreling so many years
A tale between Light and Dark
That’s left for all a visual mark.

And so I narrate this pungent fight
Of eternal Darkness and perpetual Light
Before the universe came to be
Before Chaos and Tranquility

Before all the Gods of yore
Before Earth formed round its core
Came about Dark and her twin.
Light, the closest of her kin.

When it began, no one knows.
But over eons there came the blows.
Hurtful words and spiteful lips
The bartering of stinging quips.

Then it came, that piece of time,
The universe was in its prime
Sick of all the quarreling
And all the malice it would bring

Dark stopped her lengthy ruthless fight
With her opponent, her brother Light.
To no longer argue who’s the best
At last her bickering was laid to rest.

But continuing his resentful ruffle
Light energized the verbal scuffle
“I am better,” Light would shout
And foolishly, he’d prance about.

As giddy as a forest fairy
Singing, laughing, and acting merry.
“It is I that helps plants to grow.
I emanate from lamps that glow.
I am comfort to the sleeping child
I protect against the night-time wild.
I can pierce the blackest night
I turn what is dim into bright

I am beautiful, vivid, and statuesque.
You are hideous, bleak and grotesque.
And every chance in you creep.
It’s not a wonder things fall sleep.

Dark said nothing, uttered no word.
Some things Light said were quite absurd.
And before the words she planned to speak.
She paused a moment, and then she breathed.

“My brother Light, I mean no harm.
Alas I forced to say you’re wrong.
And though your words hurt painfully
You are indeed not better than me

And I will not sit here and play your games.
Or try to disputed your foolish claims
Before you I purpose this simple truth.
You can’t exist without me, and I without you.
