 Shailash Matiyani died 10 days ago in a hospital at Delhi. His  funeral takes place at Chitra Shila at Haldwani. He was a real Diamond in the Kumaoni culture and literature. Kumaon has lost a very grate writer. We should pray to almighty god to give peace to his soul.

Infect Shailaish Matiyani Ji was in the very bad position in his last days. Lot of efforts has been made for him to bring back to his normal mental position. Even Uttaranchal CM has sanction Rs. 1.00 Lacs for his treatment.As far as i have read in the news papers he started to lost his senses after the murder of his younger son at Allahabad.

Any way the sad demise of this grate kumaoni writer has leave a place blank in the kumaoni sahitaya.

 I am extremely sorry to hear the sad demise of Shailesh Matiyani ji, in fact he was a childhood friend of my Father. Two years back he was given an award in Bhopal where he could hardly make it to the place and I remember seeing him not in his senses then. There was an effort from many pahadis and deshis to collect some money for his treatment since he was probably leading a very bad life without any money.

  My sincere tribute to great legend Shailaesh Matiyani I heard the news of sad demise of Shailesh Matiyani on 24th of April .
 

Let me share my experience and views about shailesh matiyani (SM) 
There is one SM's story "Chhindda pahlwan kee Galee" (street of chhinda ,the strongman) in which there is one "pahalwan" and a "mochi" (cobbler).They live in a same locality .Mochi has a "jawan" daughter who is the matter of concern for him as pahlwan has a "Buree Najar" for her ..but mochi can not do any thing due to the influence of pahalwan..as all locality people are on the side of 'pahalwan" due to fear ..One day mochi takes his "Sua" (needle) and challenge the pahalwan. All locality people are spectator but no one supports mochi .....In the end moral strength wins against physical strength ..so mochi wins ....this was the fiction ...but SM would have wished the same thing in reality ..when he was fighting with the land mafia in allahabad ..it was due to his opposition his younger son "Nitin" got murdered ..but he could not do any thing ...that was the thing that made SM mentally upset and after that he never recovered .There was one poem of "Allen Ginsbarg" in which he writes 
 
I have seen the best minds 
of my generation destroyed by madness
 
Same thing is true for SM. 


SM was born in 14 October 1931 at Badechhina almora .. He was only highschool pass but what he wrote is being studied and researched by learned scholars . He has written so many articles ,stories and novels,but his main mastery was in writing articles ..His article used to publish in paper like "amar ujala", "jansatta",hindustan etc ..I remember one of his article  in which he questioned the integrity of National Anthem Jan man gan" .I was really impressed by that article and his insight about the various things ..I read some of his short stories also. His famous books are "ugtey sooraj ki kiran", "hauldar", "chand auraton ka shahar" ,  "gapuli gafuran", (all novels) ...."Chhinda pahlwan kee gali","teesra sukh","barf ki chattaney", "suhagini", "ardhangini" ,  "nach jamurey nach" (all stories)..."rastra bhasa ka sawal", "kagaz ki naav" (article collections) ..etc ...
