Total solar eclipse Mar. 18, 1988
This was the second total eclipse Liz and I witnessed. We were situated on the roof of the
university at General Santos City on Mindanao Island in the Philippines. The sun was located
in a wonderful clear patch of sky. The eclipsed sun looked like a celestial dragonfly with four
coronal wings. There were also two large prominences opposite each other.

My first ever sketch of a coronal streamer from my notebook, drawn shortly after the eclipse
