Total solar eclipse July 22, 1990
Liz and I
witnessed this eclipse from the air over Finland at 35,000 feet. See my
story at
Meanwhile
- Up in the Air. The eclipse lasted
only 80 seconds and I had very little time to
study the corona. It was small but extremely
intricate. My sketch shows only a hint of the complexity
of the corona, and shows the two side-by-side
prominences at 9 o'clock, the looped streamer,
and the prominent coronal hole at 3 o'clock.
Very few people witnessed the corona of this eclipse
because it was so difficult to observe.
