- SAD NEWS : Producer Bruce Fairbairn Dead At 49 Veteran producer Bruce Fairbairn, who worked with such notable bands as Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Kiss, the Cranberries, and INXS among many others, was found dead at his home in Vancouver yesterday of unknown causes. He was 49. Fairbairn had been expected at an afternoon recording session with '70s art rockers Yes at his Armoury Studios and uncharacteristically failed to show up. Studio manager Sheryl Preston drove to his home and discovered his body on the floor of his bedroom. There were no apparent signs of injury or trauma. Fairbairn began his career as a horn player in the Canadian band Prism and went on to produce that band, as well as local favorites Loverboy, before going on to record such artists as Krokus and Blue Oyster Cult. He was often assisted by Bob Rock, who later established his own career as a rock producer. In 1986, Fairbairn produced Bon Jovi's breakthough album "Slippery When Wet," which set him on a course as one of the most successful producers of the era. He recently completed an album with the horn-laden Atomic Fireballs, which Fairbairn said took him back to his "brass roots." The current sessions for Yes (who were in the midst of mixing a new album) will continue after a brief break, with the bandmembers taking over the controls. - R.I.P. That's right. We escaped Malta for the weekend (it was almost as difficult as an Escape from Alcatraz!) and now we're headed to Monaco to hit a few parties and attend the Grand Prix on Sunday. We're gonna be guests of the Mercedes F-1 racing crew IN the pit. Pretty cool. - From Liz Smith's Column : JON BON JOVI and his adorable wife, Dorothea, will host a star-studded fund raiser in June, at their new riverfront estate, High Point, in Red Bank, N.J. The event benefits the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism and the National Alliance for Autism Research. Jon and Dorothea have lured such as Phil Simms, Chazz Palminteri, Donatella Versace, Heather Locklear, Richie Sambora and a slew of others. The Garden State will sizzle for a good cause! - BON JOVI TO REGROUP FOR NEW ALBUM : Bon Jovi will be coming back for the year 2000. The New Jersey-based rockers haven't recorded together since the 1995 album "These Days," but all the members of the band -- including frontman Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora -- plan to convene in a studio this summer to cut a new album that's tentatively due out early next year. Bon Jovi has been on hiatus for nearly five years, during which Jon Bon Jovi has focused on developing his acting career. He drew respectable reviews for his turn opposite Demi Moore in the straight-to-video flick "Destination Anywhere," and he's also had roles in such films as "Moonlight and Valentino" and "Homegrown." The singer-actor is currently on location in Malta, Italy, where he's filming the World War II submarine drama "U-571" with Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, and Harvey Keitel. Just last week, Jon Bon Jovi jumped onstage with a fellow New Jersey denizen, Bruce Springsteen, during the Boss' encore at a concert in Lyon, France, and sang backing vocals on Springsteen's 1980 hit, "Hungry Heart." - mtv.com -07.05.99 (20/05/99)

- DAVE'S NEWS : David Bryan will be participating in the fifth annual Hootie and the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Pro-Am Golf tournament will be held at the University Club in Columbia, S.C. on Monday, April 12. Other participants include members of the Hootie and the Blowfish band, ESPN analyst Sterling Sharpe, New York Jets linebacker Bryan Cox, and tour pros John Daly, David Duval and Ernie Els.
