Dear Dr. Xavier, I am a graduating Advertising student from a college in Manila. My problem is about my thesis and my thesis partner. The deadline for the submission of our first draft is due in a couple of weeks and we still have a long ways to go. My partner and I have conflicting schedules so we find it very hard to meet. The pressure is getting stronger and I feel that I am doing most of the work and she will get the same grade for something which I worked hard for. I been thinking of leaving her but she is my friend. What should I do? Should I tell our adviser? -Ricci925

Dear Ricci, Usually thesis partners are not assigned by teachers. Students are allowed to select their respective partners. Sometimes, if you can’t find a good thesis partner, it is better to work alone. That way you don’t have some one to blame or someone who blames you. Think back. Why did you choose your partner in the first place. Right now you are pressed for time. You can not do it alone at this point. Work it out with your partner. Talk. Meet half way. Talk. Remember, it is very difficult to measure work. So, it is even harder to divide it equally. One has to work more than the other. Or one has to do a different kind of work than the other. My suggestion is for the two of you to work independently at your own free time. Then meet once or twice a week to consolidate your work. And depending on how much more work is needed. You better work overtime. -Dr.XXX
