Here are some of  the things that you should do when you are faced with an examination: 1. Survey – When you pick up an examination, flip through the pages of  the questionnaire to see how long it is and how many kinds of  question are on it. Note how many questions are there of  each type --true or false, multiple choice, matching, etc.— so that you can determine how to divide your time among them. 2. Read  directions carefully - Make sure you know what you are supposed to do. Indicate your answers in exactly the way the directions tell you to. If  you  don’t, you maybe in trouble. 3. Be sure you understand the scoring rules - If  there is no penalty for guessing, you have nothing to loose by trying to answer every question. If  on the other hand, there is a definite penalty for guessing, like taking off  points for a wrong answer, FOLLOW A CONSERVATIVE STRATEGY. Guess only when you  have a strong feeling that you might be right. Whatever you do, read the instructor’s directions. Don’t hesitate to ask the proctor for clarification if there things which are not clear to you. 4. Answer Easy Questions First – If speed is a factor in the exam, you would want to work rapidly as is consistent with care. After you have surveyed the test and have gotten the instructions right, go to work immediately. Some questions will be easy and some will be hard. Some are so easy that you can answer them once you read the question. If you have to stop and think hard, mark  the particular question and proceed to the next question. Just come back to the difficult questions after you have answered all the easy questions. Unless the test is unusual, every question of the given type will have equal weight and you are just wasting your time fussing over a particular question. Know how much time you have left and how many questions remain to be answered,. This way, you can apportion your time sensibly. Use this for objective test in which the questions are problems that must be worked out. Work out first those that you are sure you know how to do. Then if you have time, go back to those that are hard to figure out.
