WHAT ARE TECHBOOKS?

TECHBOOKS are Computer-based Instructional Materials running on Microsoft's Power Point. It has two versions. Version 1.0 runs on Power Point 4.3 and version 1.2 which runs on the 97 edition of Power Point. The later version is more powerful and has more visual effects to capture the attention of the students while the first version is for schools with older computers. The first release is focused on Science and Technology. While the content of the TECH BOOKS can be used in Science and Math subjects, the TECHBOOKS itself can also be used in Computer classes where the students can learn and explore the use and potency of the Power Point in making their own presentations.

WILL THE TECHBOOKS REPLACE THE TEXTBOOKS?

NO. It is meant as a supplement, an aid. A recent study shows that only a small percentage of high school science teachers are actually science majors. A great majority of them base their lesson plans solely on the textbooks. Giving them easy access to addition references would definitely benefit the students. Furthermore, the contents of the TECHBOOKS, although very important, are very distinct and rare. There are few books with these contents and even fewer bookstores and libraries that shelve them.

WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THE TECHBOOKS?

For its initial release, the TECHBOOKS focuses on high school Science: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each field has three components. One is the importance of these subjects in everyday life. The second component contains career opportunities for students who wish to pursue these fields in college. The third is a biography of famouse people from these fields who made significant contributions to our society. Given premium here are the difficulties they encountered before achieving sucess. In essence, this component focuses on the everyday life of famous scientist. High lights of this category are three Filipino scientists who's made a significant impact in the Filipino community and the world.

WHAT IS THE LOGIC BEHIND THE TECHBOOKS?

The TECHBOOKS focuses on the sciences because many students have negative conotations about these subjects. In fact, these subjects are usually the stumbling blocks of high school students which leads to low grades, failing grades, repeaters, and eventually drop outs. By showing them how useful the sciences and how exciting they are, we can inspire the students to do better and hopefully pursue higher studies in these fields.

WHO ARE THE TECHBOOKS WRITER?

Young faculties from the University of the Philippines contributed to the development of the TECHBOOKS. They contributed articles about the use of their science in our everyday life. These ideas together with other research materials were translated by an Educational TV writer, an Aiducator.
