Indonesian police officer to be censured over Bali bomber cafe
visit
Indonesia's police chief, General Da'i Bachtiar, says a senior police officer who took a
convicted key Bali bomber on an outing to a cafe in Jakarta is to be reprimanded.
General Bachtiar says Brigadier General Gorries Mere, a member of a police
anti-terror task force that played a major role in bringing Bali bombers to justice, had
shown poor judgement in organising the visit last week.
He says Brigadier General Mere will not incur any further sanction over the coffee
outing as it had been a legitimate venture to bring bromber, Ali Imron, into contact
with a psychologist.
Journalists spotted Imron, who is serving a life sentence, having coffee with Brigadier
General Mere and the psychologist last week.
Imron, who admits involvement in the October 2002 attacks that killed 202 people,
was transferred to Jakarta in May to help efforts to catch two fugitive Malaysian bomb
experts involved in the Bali blast and other recent explosions.
