Indonesian military kills six rebels, arrests five others
The Indonesian military says it's killed six separatist rebels and arrested five others in
the latest encounters in Aceh province.
A military spokesman says government troops shot dead four Free Aceh Movement
rebels in separate clashes in three districts.
He said two other rebels were killed in East Aceh on Monday.
The military launched a major operation to crush the separatists in May 2003 after the
collapse of a brief truce.
Military and police figures show more than 2,200 rebels have been killed since then.
The latest military figures reveal that about 400 rebels were killed in the past three
months alone.
