Indonesian court jails extremist for bomb attacks
An Indonesian court has sentenced a man described by prosecutors as a veteran
Islamic extremist, to four years in jail for his part in a series of bomb attacks.
Adi Suryana, 41, was found guilty of taking part in an attack on the Philippine
ambassador's house in Jakarta in July 2000, as well as a series of Christmas Eve
church blasts the same year.
Prosecutors had called for a seven year sentence.
They said Suryana used his chemical engineering degree and Islamic militant
experience in Afghanistan and the Philippines, to run bomb workshops and plot
attacks on Western interests for the regional terror group Jemaah Islamiyah.
