Indonesia's security minister says agencies may get extra power
Indonesia's chief security minister, Hari Sabarno, says the country's intelligence
agencies may be given greater powers to help them detect terrorist plots.
A huge explosion last week in front of the Australian embassy in Jakarta killed at
least nine people and injured more than 180 in the third major bombing in the country
in as many years.
The blast came amid already heightened security, eleven days before Indonesia's
presidential election.
Mr Sabarno says intelligence agencies from the military and other bodies had not
co-ordinated effectively with police intelligence.
He said the existing law preventing intelligence agencies from arresting suspects
would be discussed.
