Thousands flee as violence erupts in Indonesian island of
Sulawesi
In Indonesia, paramilitary police reinforcements have been sent to the Polewali
Mamasa area of South Sulawesi after an outbreak of violence in the province.
At least two people are said to have been killed and scores of houses burned to the
ground in a dispute over the formation of a new local authority district.
Police say the violence, which began on Friday, has forced thousands of people to
flee their homes.
The focus of the trouble is said to be the village of Aralle Utara, which remains tense.
