Man reportedly arrested over Australian embassy blast in Jakarta
Indonesian police have reportedly arrested a Muslim militant believed to have been
involved in planning a bomb attack on the Australian embassy in Jakarta in
September.
The website of Kompas newspaper says police arrested Rois alias Iwan Darmawan
two weeks ago at a train station in the West Java town of Merak.
The website has quoted police sources as saying they have tape-recorded evidence of
statements from Rois that he was involved in the planning of the embassy blast.
If the arrest is confirmed, Rois could be charged under anti-terror laws which carry a
maximum sentence of death.
He is believed to have worked with two fugitive Malaysian explosives accused of
masterminding the September 9 embassy attack.
