Hambali's brother found guilty

Gunawan has yet to announce whether he will appeal

The brother of an alleged South East Asian militant leader has been found guilty of helping to finance a bomb attack in Jakarta last year.

Rusman Gunawan, the brother of militant suspect Hambali, was given a four year jail term by a Jakarta court.

Judge Adullah Sidiq said Gunawan had sent US$30,000 to a militant group in Indonesia from his base in Pakistan.

He said some of the money was used to fund the 2003 J W Marriott hotel bombing in Jakarta.

Twelve people died in the attack, including a suicide bomber.

"The defendant has been found guilty of helping others to acts of terrorism, and therefore we sentence him to four years in jail," said Mr Sidiq.

Gunawan, 27, told the court he was innocent. He has yet to announce whether he will appeal the verdict.

He was arrested in Pakistan in 2003, along with four other students, and deported to Indonesia.

Gunawan's older brother Hambali, whose real name is Riduan Isamuddin, was arrested in Thailand last year, and is now being held in US custody in an undisclosed location.

Hambali is alleged to be a senior leader of the regional militant group Jemaah Islamiah (JI).

JI is blamed for a string of attacks across South East Asia, including the bombing of two Bali nightclubs in October 2002, the Marriott attack in August 2003 and an explosion last month at Jakarta's Australian Embassy.
