Live torpedo found in Ambon
AMBON, Maluku: Sirimau district residents discovered an explosive device, still
believed to be dangerous, on Tuesday evening, sparking fear in the densely populated
district of Ambon city.
The 50-centimeter long and 30-centimeter diameter explosive was found after local
residents were digging a hole for a septic tank to be built. While digging, a resident's
hoe struck a metal object and it was discovered later that it was an explosive of some
type.
The police were called in and the torpedo was then taken to a nearby police station for
inspection, said First. Insp. La Ode Muhammad, the chief of Sirimau Police. -- JP
