Jakarta's Marriott targeted for second bomb, Australian officer
says
SYDNEY (DPA): Jakarta's Marriott Hotel was targeted for a second bomb but
Indonesian authorities foiled the plan and the terrorists switched their location to the
Australian Embassy, Australian Police Commissioner Mick Keelty said on Friday.
Keelty told a business lunch in Adelaide that the planned second strike on the
Marriott was timed for just days before the embassy was hit Sept. 9.
"What we now believe is that the terrorists, having in their possession a bomb ready
to go, just displaced the target and moved to the Australian embassy," Keelty said.
"It just shows you that good intelligence, while it didn't help us at the Australian
embassy, it certainly helped the J.W. Marriott not to be bombed for a second time."
