Indonesian army chief warns of foreign intelligence activities
JAKARTA, Sept. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian army chief, General Ryamizard
Ryacudu warned on Friday that foreign intelligence activities in the country hhave
reached an alarming level, putting the country's unity and cohesion at stake.
"There have been so many foreign intelligence officers here. They have created an
unstable condition under the pretext of whatsoever," he said without naming any
country when opening the national working meeting of the Indonesian Mosque Youth
Communication Board (BKPMRI) in Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra
province.
According to the national news agency Antara here, the general also asked the
people to stay in high alert for the activities of foreign intelligence officers, whose
number has continued to increase because their main mission is to capitalize on
negative issues to create horizontal conflicts in Indonesia.
To create a horizontal conflict, the foreign intelligence officers have donated sizable
funds to one of the warring camps, he noted, but still no name mentioned.
Communal conflicts in the Indonesian districts of Poso and Sambas and separatist
movements in the Indonesian provinces of Papua, Maluku and Aceh are inseparable
from foreign intelligence activities, the army chief asserted. Enditem
