James Beers, Sr.

James A. Beers Sr. Funeral Mass for James A. Beers Sr., age 87, of Willowick, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 460 E. 321st St., Willowick. Mr. Beers died peacefully Aug. 29, 2007, surrounded by his family at his home in Willowick.

Born May 11, 1920, in Cleveland, he lived there until moving to Willowick 52 years ago. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Church and Knights of Columbus Magnificat Council 4498 in Willowick and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Beers was an avid gardener, the best barbecue maker and always said he was grateful for his faith. He was a tool maker for several manufacturing companies, retiring in 1983.

Survivors are his wife, Catherine (nee Damasiewicz), to whom he was married for 68 wonderful years; children, Sally K. (Dennis) Japel and Lori (Paul) Zielinski; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Beers; grandchildren, Kathy, Julie, Amy (Rick) Baca, James (Kim), Elizabeth (Paul) Brazalovics, Michael Japel (Heather Davidson), Michelle (David) Carr, Marc Japel (Carlie Yurko), Melissa Zielinski (Adam Mitroi), Sarah and Kristin Zielinski; and nine great-grandchildren. His son, James A. Beers Jr. and grandson, Paul James Zielinski, are deceased.

Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave., Willoughby. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. Contributions may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Church, 460 E. 321st St., Willowick, 44095, or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, 44119.
