A. Don Fitzgerald

 Funeral Mass for A. Donald Fitzgerald, 79, of Willowick, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 460 E. 321 St., Willowick.

Mr. Fitzgerald died Jan. 16, 2007, at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland. Born Nov. 8, 1927, in Detroit, Mich., he had lived in Cleveland before moving to Willowick 51 years ago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabee Construction Battalion. He was a Grand Knight of Columbus 4th degree member in Willowick, race car driver/owner of stock car No. 4, a St. Mary Magdalene parishioner and usher for more than 30 years, member of American Legion Post 678, and President of Laketran.

Mr. Fitzgerald served as Willowick mayor for three terms from 1989 to 1995, Willowick police officer from 1956 to 1962, served as Willowick Council President, was a Councilman for seven years, and served as Willowick Service Director from 1977 through the 1980s and from 2000 to 2001. He also worked as a detective from 1974 to 1977 for Lake County Prosecutor Paul H. Mitrovich, was the owner of Fitzgerald Private Ambulance Service from 1962 to 1975 and Fitzgerald Air Ambulance from 1967 to 1974. Mr. Fitzgerald was a great contributor to the city and county. He will be dearly missed by all of his loved ones.

Survivors are his wife, Bernadette T. "Betty" (Lalumiere); children, Martin, Carol (Don) Schedler, Ed (Terry), Donald (Darcy), Susan (Barry) Rubin, Bruce (Mary) and Judy (Rob) Williams; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Fitzgerald; son-in-law, James St. John; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His children, Donna St. John and Ronald Fitzgerald, are deceased. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake.
