Prayer service for Leonard Carl Lucas, 82, of Woodlake, N.C.,
will be held 6:15 p.m. Sunday at Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor
Ave., Mentor.
Mr. Lucas died Dec. 9, 2002, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in North Carolina.
He was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Cleveland.
He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and boater. He
was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Willowick, the Woodlake Investment Club, and
the Republican Mens Club of Moore County. Since moving to the Sandhills area, he was a
member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Southern Pines. During World War
II, he served in the United States Army with the 553rd Engineer Heavy Pontoon Battalion of
General Patton's 3rd Army. He landed at Utah Beach in the European Theatre and received
from the French Government the Croix de Guerre with Etoile de Bronze for the Liberation of
France.
Mr. Lucas worked for many years in public relations with Clevite, opening manufacturing
facilities in St. Thomas, Ontario, Caldwell, Ohio and McConnellsville, Ohio. Later in his
career, he worked for Best Products in management.
Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Helen; sons, Michael C. (Mary Lou) Lucas of
Concord, and Martin C. (Pamela) Lucas of Zanesville; daughter, Mary Ellen Lucas of Mentor;
and grandchildren, Sean, Catherine and Michael Burton, Michael, Katie, and Laura Lucas,
and Melissa and Carl Lucas.
Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Inurnment will
be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Southwest Indian
