Joseph F. Stankus Funeral mass
for Joseph F. Stankus, 88, of Mentor, will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St.
John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor.
Mr. Stankus died Jan. 11, 2007, at Salida Woods Assisted Living in
Mentor. Born Feb. 11, 1918 in Cleveland, he lived in Mentor on the Lake
before moving to Mentor where he lived for the last 2 years. He was a
member of the Knights of Columbus and St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
He was also an artist who loved to paint and several of his paintings
were displayed at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby. He also loved to
bowl. Mr. Stankus was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
and great-great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Stankus was a retired electrician with Union Local #38. He and his
late wife Rita were one of the founding families of the St. Mary
Magdalene Church in Willowick.
Survivors are his daughters, Rita (Ted) Misich of Mentor, Jo-Elaine
(William) Castrovinci of Chardon and Veronica (Roger) Cox of Madison;
son, John (Lee) Stankus of Independence; 17 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Adele
Eichmuller and Margaret Tichulka. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Rita; parents, Frank and Magdalene Stankus; son, William; sister, Anna
Marince; and brother, John Standen.
Friends may call 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Brunner Funeral Home and
Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Burial will be in All Souls
Cemetery in Chardon Township.
