Chapter 1 The Beginning

"I really don't like being a pick-pocket, but we need to get home," Akane slid through the crowds cooly, as she grabbed a couple pieces of yen at a time. As part of the Oniwaban, and younger sister of the okashira, who wasn't present in Kyoto, she swore only to use her abilities for good. As you and I both know that stealing and being a pick-pocket isn't a good thing. But she and Misao desperately needed money to get back home. Misao had spent most of the money for food and a new cape. Akane used it for practical needs, like breakfast, lunch, and a little dinner. Now they were completely out of money.
"Hey, where's my money!?" one woman exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'm missing my purse!"
"Where's my money!?"
"I could've sworn it was here!"
"Thief!"
Akane froze in her tracks and slowly turned her head to the man who was pointing to her. "Y-yes?"
"Where did you get all that money!?"
She looked at the bag in her hand. "B-by working at the Aoiya, sir."
"That's all the way in the next town!"
"Me and my friend were traveling, and I have yet to find her, so, I better get going!"
"Matte!"
"Y-yes?"
"Make sure to say hi to Okina for me."
"H-hai!" She walked towards a clearing where nobody could see her and sighed. "Boy, that was close. I have to make sure never to do that again... Hm? Misao?" She saw Misao's favorite cape lying on the ground. "Looks like she was here." She walked on forward and saw two pairs of footsteps, leading up to a restaurant that held the money. "What in the world?" She followed them.
*Akane-chan is never taking me on a mission with her, again. If she can't find, she might leave! Oh no! What am I going to do!? Oh well, * Misao thought to herself as she followed the red-headed man. "Come on, Himura! Can I just take one bag? They won't miss it!" Kenshin began pushing Misao out of the money room.
"Now, now, Misao-dono, we must do the right thing and return the money, that we shou--"
"Stop right there!" a woman yelled in the entrance.
"Oro?" Kenshin asked bewildered.
"D-Don't move!" The woman commanded.
"Uh-oh..." Misao said quietly.
Akane knocked on the door of the restaurant. "Hello? Hello! Is anyone here?"
A woman opened the door. "Gomen, but we're closed today."
"Oh, I was just wondering. Have you seen a girl with a braid and an outfit much like mine?"
"Ah, yes. She was with a red-headed man. I called security. They were stealing some of our money."
Akane facefaulted. *Misao...* "Ah, arigatou gozaimasu," she bowed and ran off. *I'm gonna kill you Misao!*
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"This is just great, Himura!" Misao yelled. "Okina is gonna ground me, I'm in jail, and worst of all, Akane-san is never taking me on a mission with her, EVER!! And you know who I blame? I blame you!"
"Me? Why would you blame me? I didn't do anything!"
"If you just would've let me take a bag of money, we wouldn't be here! But, nooo, we just had to do the 'right' thing and leave the money behind! So that stupid woman found us and called the police! Now we're in here, a jail cell, without food, water, comfort, civi--"
"Misao-dono, we should really calm down and find a way to get out of here!"
"Don't interrupt me!!"
"But, Misao-dono--"
"I have an idea! Shut up Himura and let me find a way to get out of here!" Kenshin facefaulted. "Alright, let's say I grab my kunai, threaten a police officer walking by to give us the keys or he's dead, unlock ourselves, and RUN!"
Kenshin sighed. "That's not what I was thinking at all, Misao-dono."
"Dammit! Let go of me!" a man yelled being thrown into a cell.
"Oro? Sano, is that you?" Kenshin asked the man.
"Huh?" Sano looked closer, well, as close as you can get in a jail cell. "Oh, Kenshin! How did you get here?" he then turned his eyes to Misao. "Hm? Who's she?"
"Heh, long story."
"Not really," Misao shrugged.
"Let me see her, now!! I don't care if she's in custody! I NEED to see her!" A familiar voice yelled.
"Huh?" Misao wondered out loud. "Akane?"
"Gomen, but I can't let you through!" the chief of police answered.
"And why's that!?" Akane shouted angrily.
"You must have an appointment, and some authority! Or, you can pay to bail them out."
"Oh come ON! I can't use all that money I took just to bail all them out! I need this money to get home! Now, as an Oniwabanshu member, I order you to let them out this instance!"
*Oniwabanshu?* Kenshin thought. *Ah, that explains her outfit... except the fact that it's purple." He smiled.
"Hey, what's so funny?" Misao asked.
"Nothing, nothing."
"Right," Sano said sarcastically.
"Oniwabanshu? Stolen money?" the chief asked. "You must be with that girl and the red-headed man!"
"Nani?" Akane asked confused.
"Don't play innocent with me! Where's the money?"
"Huh?"
The Chief took out handcuffs. "W-what are you gonna do with those!?" Akane took a step back. "D-don't come any closer! I'm armed!"
"With what?"
".... Something..." Something then caught Akane's eyes. She smirked. "Gomen ne."
"Nani? What are you--" She flipped over his head and landed on his desk.
She took the keys on top of the desk and jumped over his head. She then ran threw the door which the cells where on the other side.
"Hey! Get back here! Security!" Two more officers ran up next to him. She looked back.
"Like I said, GOMEN!! Time for me to get out of this joint." They then began to run after her. She was caught in a corner. "Shimatta. I didn't wanna use this." She took out her nunchaku.
"She wouldn't," Misao crossed her arms. "Okay, maybe she would. But hey, she's never used them unless she really needed to."
"Nunchaku!" Kenshin identified the weapon.
Misao informed them. "Her main weapon is the Hiraikotsu, a huge boomerang. How she carries it, I have no clue. It's probably one of the biggest weapons out there."
"Hiraikotsu and Nunchaku," Sano thought out loud. "Hm. Interesting choice of weapons."
"Stay back!" Akane threatened. She began spinning her nunchaku. The officers took a step back. "Hai. And keep that distance if you value your life!" *Of course I would never hurt anybody unless I totally needed to, but... Why the hell am I talking to myself in a middle of a crisis!?"* She used her free hand to grasp the handle on her Hiraikotsu that was strapped to her back.
"What's going on here?" a voice intruded.
"Saitou!" Kenshin recognized the person.
"Hm? Battousai? What are you doing here? ... Oh, Itachi. That explains it." Kenshin had to hold back Misao from throwing her kunai at Saitou.
"You stupid psycho cop! How dare you! Weasel girl my ass! Argh! Let me go Himura! Let me GOOO!!"
"You should calm, Misao-dono, that you should, " Kenshin said nervously.
"Pipe down, Itachi, " Saitou was really pumping Misao's anger, which really isn't a good thing.
"Let go of me Himura!"
Sano sweatdropped. "Shut up, Itachi, will you? You're being annoying!"
"ITACHI!?" Misao yelled.
"Sano, I really think you shouldn't have done that," Kenshin was struggling to keep Misao from knocking down the cell bars.
Akane looked at friend with a weird look on her face. *Misao... what in the world is wrong with you? Agh, I'll ask about that later. Right now I have to get them out!* She kept her back against the wall as she walked towards the cells. *Almost there... Just a bit more..* She put the key in the lock.
"What the?" one of the police men turned around.
"Eee!" she quickly unlocked Sano, Kenshin, and Misao's cells, dropped the keys and ran out the door. The three policemen tried to chase after her, but soon lost their breath. Kenshin, Sano, and Misao blinked.
"Chotto matte, Akane-san!" Misao ran after her friend.

I guess you can say that it's still not very long. But I think it makes a bit more sense than the first time I did it. Yeah, I totally think that.
