Letter to the readers
Dear readers,
punctually for the 134th anniversary of the proclamation of Paris Commune
(18th March 1871), the first state of the dictarorship of the proletariat,
No. 18 of Proletarian Review was published. Since we must still live under
the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie in 2005 of the old era we sorrily have
to refer to the backward glancing frenzy of anniversaries of the ruling class.
The leading article and the those about imperialist neutrality and the EU refer
to those jubilees.
From a proletarian standpoint the liberation of Vienna, Eastern Austria and
large parts of Europe by the Red Army of the then still socialist Soviet Union
was a really epoch-making event that dwarfs everything the bourgeoisie is having
celebrated and distorted at present.
The picture on the front page shows a column of the Red Army in early 1945
somewhere in Upper Austria. Evgenij Khaldej, the photographer, commented his
picture as follows:“Also with this photo people ask me if the sky has been
changed. But the real idea is to be seen below. All say, I had decidedly put
the banner there. No, I have only set the house on fire because the commander
of the concentration camp lived there.”
Sorrily–as a harm especially to the working class and the people–the causes
that produce fascism have not been abolished in the past six decades. The danger
of fascism exists as long as capitalism/imperialism exists. Also in Austria
the fascists have been going on committing murders after 1945. For an example
we remind of Comrade Ernst Kichweger who fell victim to a fascist hooligan
40 years ago.
Further articles in the domestic part deal with militarism, housing problems
and occurences around the Ernst Kirchweger House (EKH–an autonomously organised
social and cultural centre in Vienna).
In the international part you find articles on the peoples war in Nepal, the
second part of the history of the Kurd struggle for liberation (part one was
published in PR no. 16) and the so-called islam“revolution”in Iran in 1979.
Finally we have again succeeded in getting a cultural contribution too. We
found it in the Swiss magazine“Aufbau”and it deals with hip hop.
In the middle of this issue–for pulling it out–you find the second part of
the“History of the Austrian working class movement”in Turkish language.
